Professional Ethics for New York State Psychologists is a 3-hour online continuing education (CE) course that meets the ethics and law requirement for license renewal of New York psychologists. The purpose of this course is to ensure that New York State licensed psychologists are fully aware of the ethical and legal privileges and constraints under which they are licensed to practice in the State of New York. It provides the opportunity for a comprehensive reading of the APA Code of Ethics and the four sets of laws, rules, and regulations governing the practice of psychology in New York. Completing this course will fulfill the New York State Education Law requirement that each licensed psychologist completes a minimum of 3 hours of coursework in professional ethics, including the laws, rules, and regulations for practice in New York State in any 36-month period. *This course satisfies the ethics and law requirement for triennial re-licensure of New York State psychologists. Topics discussed include definitions of boundaries; resolving conflicts between ethics and the law; professional competence; boundary crossings vs. boundary violations; multiple relationships; sexual misconduct; privacy and confidentiality in the age of HIPAA; ethics issues with dangerous clients; ethical boundaries in use of social media; ethical practice in teletherapy; fees and financial relationships; use of assessments; and a model for ethical decision making.
