Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of pediatricians in primary care practice, surgery, ENT, orthopedic surgery, and radiology. Other healthcare providers including geneticists are included.

Program Overview
Prior to the diagonosis of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), affected children often present with hernia and recurrent ear infection that require surgical interventions. Raising suspicion of MPS among these children is critical. This program will discuss how to recognize these children and initiate the diagnostic process.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Describe the early surgeries frequently performed in children with MPS
Evaluate the non-surgical early presentations that are characteristic of MPS
Assess the diagnostic process of MPS, initial tests, and surgical risk
