Alleviating Asthma Burden—Identifying and Managing Poorly Controlled Disease in Pediatric Patients

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Activity Overview
Asthma is responsible for significant patient morbidity and mortality, and tremendous burdens on health care systems and pediatric patients with asthma can be disproportionately affected. In particular, children and adolescents with poorly controlled or severe asthma comprise a group in which unmet needs warrant concentrated attention. These patients benefit significantly from the use of targeted therapies, yet clinicians may not be implementing best-use strategies.
This webcast features expert clinical faculty sharing best practices for assessment and management of poorly controlled asthma. As a foundation, they will share information about asthma phenotypes and endotypes, key cytokine pathways involved in asthma pathogenesis, and clinical data supporting targeted therapies and their application.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward allergists, clinical immunologists, pulmonologists, and specialty nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
• Identify key elements and the cytokine pathways of adaptive and innate immunity in early-onset asthma
• Discuss clinical data for agents that target key elements of asthma endotypes
• Explain the stepwise approach to disease assessment, treatment, and treatment adjustment
• Construct management plans for pediatric patients with poorly-controlled or severe asthma
