Myeloma Masters: The Ultimate Myeloma Patient Care Quiz Show

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of oncology nurses, advanced oncology certified nurse practitioners, and other health care providers involved in the care of patients with multiple myeloma.

Program Overview

Multiple myeloma management has advanced significantly in recent years, providing new hope for myeloma patients but creating new challenges for health care providers. Using an engaging and entertaining game show format (think Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), this activity tests players’ knowledge of current and emerging myeloma patient care best practices. Along the way—using a range of multimedia prompts and hints—the game presents information on several fast-evolving areas of myeloma care, such as optimal use of staging tests, new therapies for both newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory patients, and adverse event management. As players correctly answer questions, they accumulate points that will—hopefully!—earn them the title of Myeloma Master.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
Interpret cytogenetic, molecular, and other standard staging tests used to define risk and prognosis for patients with myeloma precursor conditions and multiple myeloma
Distinguish between the indicated uses and mechanisms of action of current and emerging treatment regimens
Evaluate emerging data regarding the approach to minimal residual disease testing
Describe the toxicity profile for newer agents used for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma and ways to minimize the impact of treatment-related side effects
Create patient-centered management plans with patients and other members of the care team to provide education on disease prognosis and treatment
