The Future of Food Allergy: Novel Treatment Options on the Horizon

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward allergists, clinical immunologists, pediatricians, and specialty nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Program Overview
Food allergy is a potentially life-threatening condition that can adversely affect the well-being of those who have it. Most symptoms (eg, hives, itching, tingling of the lips) occur within 2 hours of allergen ingestion—and often within minutes. In some cases, such as food-dependent or exercise-induced anaphylaxis, there is a temporal relationship between food consumption and exercise. Despite the risk of severe reactions, including death, no treatment exists at present. Food allergy is managed by avoiding the triggers and treating the symptoms.

In this online, on-demand activity, a panel of expert faculty discuss the epidemiology of food allergy, its current management, and new and emerging immunotherapies for the disorder.

This educational activity is an archive of the live virtual symposium held on May 4, 2022.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better prepared to:

Describe the disease burden associated with food allergies and its negative effect on patient quality of life (QoL).
Identify the role of current treatment strategies for the management of patients with food allergies.
Explain limitations associated with current therapies for food allergies.
Evaluate safety and efficacy data of emerging investigational therapies for the prevention and management of food allergies.
