Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of pediatricians in emergency medicine, primary care practice, allergy and immunology, gastroenterology, surgery, radiology, and other speciaties. Healthcare providers including geneticists and genetic counselors are included.

Program Overview
Initial attacks from hereditary angioedema (HAE) occur in pediatric population. The swelling in various parts of the body and edema of bowel wall are often mistaken for allergic angioedema, abdominal pain, or appendicitis. This program will discuss the evaluation and management of HAE in children.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Evaluate the early presentations and common misdiagnoses of HAE in children
Discuss the diagnostic of HAE and the interpretation of test results
Assess treatment options and disease management of pediatric patients
