Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed specifically for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, social workers/case managers, and other health professionals who serve patients in rural and underserved communities.

Program Overview
Health professionals play an important role in helping patients cope with an HIV diagnosis and improving their health outcomes. It is therefore critical to engage patients in conversation to understand their needs and concerns, barriers to care, and ability to adhere to their treatment regimen. This video, which is Part 3 of a three-part series titled Patient-Centered HIV Care in Rural and Underserved Communities: Strategies for Improving Communication, Engagement, and Support, will demonstrate a follow-up visit with a newly diagnosed patient with HIV who recently started treatment. Strategies for addressing stigma and medication adherence challenges and information on support services for patients coping with a new HIV diagnosis will also be reviewed.
