Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of primary care clinicians and resident/fellows in family medicine. It may also be of benefit to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who are involved in family planning.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) specifically intrauterine devices (IUD) provide safe and effective contraception for up to 10 years depending on the device selected. Misconceptions about LARC and lack of experience with placement and removal are barriers to LARC uptake. LARC eligibility using the Medical Eligibility Criteria app and key elements of patient education for informed shared decision-making are discussed. Also, information to differentiate available devices, and practical information on insertion and removal are detailed.
