This activity was included in a series of workshops as part of a quality improvement program “Leading the Way: Improving Breast Cancer Disparities for Minority Patients in Chicago.” Led by Olufunmilayo Olopade, MD, FACP, this initiative is studying the effectiveness of targeted interventions in improving breast cancer care for African American women treated in Cook County. In this workshop, Dr. Nan Chen from the University of Chicago Medicine discusses the oncology, surgical, and radiation treatment experiences of white and Black women. Dr. Chen also reviews barriers, common misconceptions with breast cancer treatment, and interventions clinicians can employ to overcome racial disparities in breast cancer. |
