Community Practice Connections(TM): Inflammation & Pathogenesis in DME " Rethinking the Traditional Treatment Paradigm

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Activity Overview
Antivascular endothelial growth factor (Anti-VEGF) treatment has been heavily relied upon for the management of diabetic macular edema (DME). Therapies in this class can produce positive outcomes, yet significant issues remain, including nonresponders and the treatment burden on patients due to frequent intraocular injections. Newer delivery systems have reinvigorated the use of corticosteroids for DME treatment, and they may improve outcomes for long-term care by helping to meet the individual needs of each patient.
This Community Practice Connection™ program provides an in-depth review of some of the key highlights from the American Society of Retina Specialists meeting, held in July 2022. This unique and engaging multimedia activity is ideal for the community-based clinician; it focuses on the practical aspects treating patients with DME, putting recent clinical trial data into clinical context. The program is designed for those who did not attend the live meeting and to help reinforce learnings for those who did.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed toward retina specialists, ophthalmologists, and other health care professionals who are involved in treating patients with diabetic macular edema.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, you should be better prepared to:
• Discuss the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of diabetic macular edema
• Identify limitations associated with current management and treatment strategies for diabetic macular edema
• Implement evidence-based therapies for patients who fail or exhibit a suboptimal response to conventional treatment for diabetic macular edema
