Guideline Directed Care For Screening All Patients With Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of primary care providers (PCPs) (ie, internists, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, and PAs), endocrinologists, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and residents.

Program Overview
Diabetic retinopathy continues to affect greater numbers of patients with diabetes; in fact, those with diabetes are 25 times more likely to experience blindness. Patients with newly diagnosed diabetes may be confused, anxious, or overwhelmed with the steps they need to take to manage their medical issues, including eye health. Join Dr. Amy Zack as she reacts to a patient video where the patient describes his confusion with his new diagnosis, and offers strategies to help explain the intricacies of eye health and vision screenings associated with diabetes.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Recognize key factors for patient education that are needed to catalyze uptake of recommended eye care in patients with diabetes
