Diabetic Eye Care Prime Time™: Addressing Disparities in Diabetic Eye Care

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of clinicians involved in the care and management of patients with or at risk for diabetic retinopathy (DR)/diabetic macular edema (DME) including PCPs (ie, internists, FPs, NPs, and PAs), endocrinologists, optometrists, comprehensive ophthalmologists, residents, retinal specialists, and retinal fellows.

Program Overview
DR/DME continues to affect greater numbers of patients with diabetes, and, unfortunately, in addition to managing the disease, some patient populations experience social determinants that can affect care. Join our multidisciplinary panel of Drs. Coney, Kashyap, and Vega for an engaging, live discussion regarding DR/DME and the importance of understanding the barriers that minority patients with diabetes face. Special focus will be given to starting conversations with patients to identify and address adherence issues, and strategies to help clinicians encourage patients to adhere to and access the best level of care for the management of their diabetes and vision screening.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Identify barriers to diabetic eye care in vulnerable patient populations, such as older patients and racial and ethnic minorities
Implement strategies that are proven to address disparities in diabetic eye care among underserved patient populations, including racial and ethnic minorities, and older patients
