TARGET AUDIENCE:
This activity was developed for family medicine/primary care physicians, pediatricians, dermatologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and related healthcare professionals.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Dermatology expert Hilary Baldwin, MD, delves into the management of pediatric facial and truncal acne addressing practical management strategies to optimize patient-centered treatment success. In addition to discussing the impact of acne on health-related quality of life and sequelae, Dr. Baldwin summarizes the pathophysiologic basis for treatment. She reviews the topical and systemic treatment options and highlights key concepts in reduction of antibiotic use, minimization of antibiotic resistance, and strategies to minimize adverse events as well as improve patient tolerability and adherence.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Describe the healthcare and psychological burden associated with pediatric facial and truncal acne
• Discuss new antibiotic-sparing treatment strategies for facial and truncal acne, including recent clinical data
• Create evidence-based treatment plans for pediatric patients with facial and truncal acne, considering the limitations of commonly used therapies and the inappropriate use of antibiotics
• Collaborate with pediatric patients and/or caregivers to individualize therapy for facial and truncal acne that encourages treatment adherence, manages treatment expectations, and limits sequelae
