Understanding Best Care Practices for Hemorrhagic Stroke " A Focus on the Role of DOAC Reversals

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This educational program is directed toward all attendees of the 2022 Neurocritical Care Society Annual Meeting, including neurointensivists, critical care clinicians, and neurologists. Cardiologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, primary care physicians, and other health care professionals involved in treatment of patients experiencing bleeding episodes are invited to participate.

Program Overview
Direct anticoagulants (DOACs) are essential therapy for patients at risk of thromboembolism. Millions of patients worldwide depend on these agents to prevent harmful blood clots from forming. However, these agents increase the risk of serious or uncontrolled bleeding and related complications. Notably, reversal agents with proven safety and efficacy are available. It is critical that clinicians whose scope of practice includes prescribing DOAC therapy stay abreast of management opportunities and challenges for use of DOAC reversal agents.

This virtual symposium features expert faculty discussing safety and efficacy data and best practices of DOAC reversal agents for hemorrhagic stroke.

This educational activity is an archive of the live symposium held on October 18, 2022.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
Discuss appropriate use of DOAC reversal agents for intracerebral hemorrhage
Evaluate the safety and efficacy of reversal agents for DOAC-associated bleeds
Review therapeutic management of ICH based on safety and efficacy data of DOAC reversal agents and clinical indications
Apply current practice guidelines on DOAC reversal therapies for optimal management of intracerebral hemorrhage and hemorrhagic stroke
