Overview / Abstract: |
Two common problems that primary care providers encounter when treating patients with MDD are (1) inadequate treatment response and (2) adverse effects, such as emotional blunting, associated with antidepressants. In addition to compromising a patient’s health and quality of life, these problems cause many individuals with MDD to not adhere to a treatment plan. In this activity, 2 expert faculty members, W. Clay Jackson, MD, DipTh, and Regina F. Goulder, FNP-C, APN, will support learners as they are asked to detect and manage antidepressant adverse effects and inadequate treatment response. Two cases will be used to illustrate how a patient-centered approach to MDD care can maximize treatment success: 2 patients with MDD will share their real-life experiences with overcoming the adverse effects of antidepressants and inadequate treatment response. |
