Integrating PARP Inhibitors Into Treatment for Advanced Ovarian Cancer: Strategies for Improving Care and Outcomes

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed specifically for oncologists, advanced practice providers, and other members of the healthcare team who serve patients from rural and underserved communities.

Program Overview
In recent years, the emergence of novel therapeutic agents has led to improved outcomes for patients with advanced and/or platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. Yet, even with improved treatment options, oncology teams in rural and underserved settings are challenged to provide equitable, quality cancer care due to barriers such as clinician shortages, limited resources, and significant travel distances to access healthcare. In this activity, expert faculty will review the efficacy and safety of PARP inhibitors for advanced ovarian cancer and clinical evidence surrounding individualized treatment selection in the first-line and maintenance settings. Strategies to improve recognition and management of therapy-related adverse events and overcome disparities in rural and underserved communities will also be discussed.

This enduring activity is a recorded session from Oncology Congress that took place on April 1, 2023.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Identify key barriers in ovarian cancer care in rural and underserved settings
Evaluate the safety and efficacy of PARP inhibitors as maintenance therapy for ovarian cancer
Apply key findings from clinical trials and expert guidance to the selection of maintenance treatment for ovarian cancer
Develop team-based strategies to improve the recognition and management of adverse events associated with PARP inhibitor use for ovarian cancer
