Overview / Abstract:

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of Pediatric and Adult Endocrinologists, Pediatricians, Primary Care Providers, and Endocrine Nurses.

Program Overview
During this program, experts will present overviews of the importance of early screening and staging for type 1 diabetes (T1D), strategies and practical pearls for screening and follow-up, how to intervene early with disease-modifying therapies to delay progression to clinical T1D, as well as ongoing therapeutic advances in this setting. The program will be highly interactive, with case-based discussions, Q & A, and engaging animations to facilitate the uptake of key concepts in early T1D, and to allow for increased interaction with the expert faculty.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Describe the clinical presentation of T1D in adults compared to children
Identify appropriate autoantibody screening strategies for T1D, including type, frequency, and number
Interpret results from screening protocols to drive management decisions
Discuss the latest clinical evidence for efficacy and tolerability of newly approved and investigational immunomodulatory agents
Implement strategies for appropriate clinical monitoring and early screening in individuals at highest risk
