Overview / Abstract: |
STATEMENT OF NEED Multiple myeloma is a B-cell neoplasm that occurs primarily in older adults. The incidence is expected to rise in conjunction with the aging population. Because symptoms often do not appear until the malignancy is in advanced stages, early diagnosis is difficult, and the 5-year relative survival rate remains only 54% (ACS, 2021). Following diagnosis, management must be guided by cytogenic markers with prognostic significance and correct staging based upon these markers (NCCN, 2019). As recommendations change with the fast pace of multiple myeloma research, it is difficult to stay abreast of new developments (i3 Health, 2021). In this webinar, Sarah Holstein, MD, PhD, and Ashley Rosko, MD, will discuss the latest recommendations for multiple myeloma classification at diagnosis, new data on treatment regimens for newly diagnosed disease, and strategies for maintenance therapy. TARGET AUDIENCE Hematologists, oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: Assess factors that classify patients as high risk in multiple myeloma development and progression |
