Overview / Abstract: |
In this 6-hour knowledge-based home study learning program, participants will review the regulations of veterinary medicine and recommendations for veterinary compounding, as well as the challenges in compounding for a veterinary patient. Participants will explore ways to help patients and owners by adjusting dosage strength, customizing dosage forms, and tailoring ingredient selection by animal species. Participants will review important compounding principles, including the benefits and risks of different routes of administration, the appropriate application of excipients, and the use of flavoring agents. |

Richard Dilzer, RPh, FACA, FAPC Richard H. Dilzer, RPh, FACA, FAPC is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Pharmacy. Since 1985 Rich has practiced in many pharmacy settings including retail pharmacy, long term care, mail-order operations, infusion therapy, consulting, and sterile and nonsterile compounding. He has served as a preceptor for several colleges of pharmacy. He has held directorships in infusion therapy, long-term care, and mail-order operations. Rich is a fellow in both the American College of Apothecaries (ACA) and the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding (APC). He is co-inventor of four patent-pending injectable formulations. He has served as contributing member of the APC Adverse Events and Quality Assurance Software Development Committee and the ACA Mentoring Committee. Margaret Cannon, CPhT Margaret Cannon, CPhT is a certified pharmacy technician with more than five years of experience in both non-sterile and sterile compounding. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, earning her bachelor of science degree in Food Science. In addition to compounding, Margaret has extensive experience in customer service, helping meet the needs of compounding pharmacy customers, including physicians, veterinarians, patients, and pharmacies. Margaret has experience working with the latest in compounding equipment used on both sterile and non-sterile compounding. She is a key member of Spectrum Pharmacy Products technical services department, helping customers with questions on products, formulations, and compounding techniques as well as creating and developing teaching and training tools for the Spectrum Pharmacy Institute. |
