VETERINARY COMPOUNDING ESSENTIALS is an accredited 15-hour (1.5 CEUs) practice-based course that introduces pharmacists, technicians, and marketers to veterinary pharmacy compounding. The program provides fundamental techniques for effectively growing the veterinary compounding practice, including calculations, proper safety practices, hands-on compounding, and marketing.

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
• Demonstrate knowledge of animal diseases where a compounding pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician can impact animal medication compliance.

• Identify flavoring options for various animal species and compound preparations.

• Differentiate between food and companion animals.

• Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements and professional standards that affect veterinary compounding, including USP.

• Cite examples of drugs that are contraindicated or must be used with caution in animals.

• Demonstrate the ability to perform calculations necessary to compound veterinary preparations.

• Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate Beyond Use Dating {BUD) for veterinary preparations, per USP.

• Identify equipment and supplies commonly required to compound veterinary preparations.

• Identify information resources and appropriate references that may be useful to the pharmacist and/or technician when compounding veterinary preparations.

• Demonstrate the ability to properly utilize personal protective equipment {PPE) when compounding veterinary preparations.

• Demonstrate the ability to compound a variety of compound preparations, including transdermal gels, suspensions, solutions, chews, suppositories, and poloxamer gels.

• Discuss how to prepare a patient education leaflet for veterinary patients.

• Discuss marketing techniques for growing a veterinary compound practice.
