Overview / Abstract: |
Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a rare autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that mainly manifests through recurrent attacks of optic neuritis and longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis. Although early detection is critical for improved outcomes, misdiagnosis is common during the early stages of disease. The application of newer diagnostic criteria and methods may facilitate a differential diagnosis. Until recently, treatment options have been limited, but the emergence of monoclonal antibody therapies has led to a notable shift in therapeutic paradigms. In this educational activity, faculty emphasize the importance of early detection and review clinical evidence that can be used to guide clinical decision-making. An expert panel of clinicians will present hot topics in NMOSD management and discuss clinical cases that address important diagnostic and treatment challenges. |
