Overview / Abstract: |
Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy has revolutionized treatment paradigms for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). However, these agents are associated with a high treatment burden because of the injection frequency, and a substantial number of patients do not adhere to their treatment schedules, resulting in suboptimal response to therapy. To address these issues, new dosage regimens and surgical drug delivery approaches have been developed to enable continuous dosing over extended time intervals. With the recent inclusion of novel therapeutic approaches into the current treatment algorithms for nAMD and DME, it is crucial that clinicians are aware of the supporting data for these therapies and best practices for the continued management of patients with the Port Delivery System. This monograph evaluates efficacious treatment approaches that lengthen dosing intervals and reduce reliance on frequent anti-VEGF injections in patients with nAMD or DME. |
