Cats process medications differently than humans and other animal species, which can affect drug response and increase the risk of medication toxicity. This activity examines the unique physiological characteristics of cats and how differences in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) influence medication safety and therapeutic decisions. Presented by Renee Schmid, DVM, DABT, DABVT, the session discusses common human medication poisonings in cats through case-based examples. Participants will learn how species-specific differences affect medication use and why certain drugs may pose greater risks to feline patients. This activity is designed for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians who want to better understand feline medication safety and the risks associated with medication poisoning. |
