PEERx - Ethics Module 6: Preparing Pharmacy For The Next Crisis

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

This Educational Activity is provided by Pharmacy Ethics, Education, and Resources (PEER) and is designed to educate healthcare professionals on ethics to improve patient safety.

The emergence of the COVID-19 virus in 2020 plunged the world into an unprecedented pandemic. Pharmacists found themselves at the forefront of this global health emergency, facing it with minimal preparation and guidance. With existing emergency plans proving ineffective during a worldwide shutdown, this initiative will delve into the ethical considerations of responding to a rapidly evolving crisis. Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, including emergency readiness, communication strategies, procurement methods, and fair distribution practices, highlighted the healthcare community's lack of preparedness for such an event. The insights gained from the pandemic will serve as valuable guidance for the pharmacy community in managing future crises.
