Overview / Abstract: |
The rate of obesity in children and adolescents is increasing, posing significant physical and mental health challenges through childhood and adolescence and into adulthood. Recently, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have been approved for use in patients as young as 12 years, and it is critical that clinicians initiate both lifestyle management and pharmacologic therapies as early as possible. Dr. Fatima Stanford discusses 10 common questions asked about managing obesity in adolescents, including how to discuss obesity, lifestyle modification and family involvement, pharmacotherapy and recent guidelines on GLP-1 RAs and other therapies, and the possibility of bariatric surgery. |
