nAMD and DME: Novel Treatment Plans to Prioritize Real-World Visual Improvements

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Frequent intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies can significantly improve visual and anatomical outcomes for many patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). However, the requisite high number of treatments often leads to less-than-ideal results compared to outcomes reported in major clinical trials, largely due to the demanding treatment schedule. Adopting tailored treatment plans, along with the use of FDA-approved therapies that allow for longer intervals between injections, has shown promise in decreasing the need for frequent treatments while maintaining gains in visual acuity and anatomical outcomes. In this CE activity, experts in the field review practical strategies, methods, and protocols derived from real-world evidence to improve the treatment of nAMD and evaluate evidence-supported, durable treatment strategies that emphasize safety and aim to enhance vision for individuals with DME.
